Bluetooth's Castle

Bluetooth’s Castle

“The Tale of Bluebeard” is a traditional fairytale about curiosity, the emotion that motivates us towards wonder, inspiration and imagination and is at the root of scientific discovery, technological development and artistic expression. Curiosity’s most powerful catalyst is mystery and its most positive outcome is innovation. While scientific and technological curiosity seeks to uncover and harness the secrets and forces of mystery, artistic curiosity strives towards its exploration, evocation and/or presentation.

The site in question recalls a castle tower. As proposed, the windows of the tower’s upper story would be altered, either through the use of blue lighting or other coloristic means, to suggest a fairytale tower. The windows of the lower story would frame video screens on which appear images of characters donned in lavish period costumes and sporting bluetooths.

An air of mystery and enchantment is evoked as the characters move their lips in muted utterance., piquing curiosity and causing viewers to wonder what the ladies are saying and whether they are declaiming, conversing or singing. By dialing a number, indicated either through text, lip play or both, viewers can hear a quasi-operatic soundtrack that either reveals or re-enforces the mystery in progress.

Such an installation would prove pragmatic in that it is simple, yet visually and

conceptually effective, requiring minimum on-site preparation and man power.

Also, tear down of the installation would be easy to execute.

In Blue Tooth’s Castle, art presents the visitor with a mystery while science and technology offer ways to reveal it.
