Spewing minerals at Fly Geyser

Souvenir from the Black Rock Desert I went last weekend: Fly Geyser is a man-made small geothermal geyser located in Washoe County, Nevada, on the west end of the Black Rock Desert. The geyser was accidentally created by well drilling in 1964 exploring for sources of geothermal energy. Since then dissolved minerals in the well water started rising and accumulating, creating the travertine mound on which the geyser sits and continues growing. Sorry, the Fly Geyser sits on private land. Northern Nevada is very dry, so the green land nearby is very unusual. Where is water there is life.

I wanted to get a shot from a high enough point of view to capture the travertine terraces, so I put the camera on self timer, extended the tripod to the max length, and used it as a pole to get this shot. I post-processed the RAW image into a creative HDR photo.
