Santa Caterina dello Ionio 5
Santa Caterina has a peculiar tradition of making scarecrows and placing them on the roofs of the houses, the scarecrows are called spaventapasseri, they are made of straw, old clothes, hats and they are supposed to ward off evil spirits bringing good luck to the inhabitant. The town also has a mysterious fountain that is said to have healing properties, the fountain is called Fontana della Salute (meaning “Fountain of Health”), it is located near the Porta dell’Acqua gate and according to legend, the fountain was built by a Byzantine emperor who was cured of a disease by drinking its water. I wished we would have spent a little more time in this interesting town but that is par for the course on most places I visit but better to leave wanting more and we were also wanting to have a proper lunch as this town was shut down for Monday leaving us with Crik Crok and beer or hightailing it to Badolato.
I took this on Sept 18th 2023 with my D850 and Nikon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 at 44mm, 1/250s, f11 ISO 250 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia ,Topaz, and DXO
