Gerace 11

I counted 12 churches in Gerace when I visited which is a lot for a village of just over 2400 residents, I have even heard comparisons that Gerace is the “Southern Florence” in at least church density, over time there have been 120+ churches here. This shot is of Chiesa di San Martino the church of the Borghetto the middle area of Gerace that runs along via Roma to pass through the Porta del Borghetto and what used to be the Porta del Ponte. The Church itself is originally from a Byzantine construction design but had to be rebuilt due to the 1783 earthquake this time with an updated Baroque-Neoclassical that was in fashion at the time.
