Gerace 8
This is the Porta del Sole called this because it is the east facing entrance to the Centro Storico, when the sun rises from the sea the first rays as it climbs to the level of town become visible through this gate a sight that should be at least once during your visit. To say Gerace has a great view is an understatement the old town sits on top of a 500m promontory facing the Ionian sea, the town itself dates to around 900 AD the fossil record of the rock it sits on to about 60 million years ago. Gerace is formed of three towns the old town on the top where we stayed which contains most of the tourist attractions, the Borghetto middle section and the lowest section Borgo Maggiore which houses artisan workshops dug into the tuffa stone as well as newer residential units.
I took this on Sept 16th 2023 with my D850 and Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2 Lens at 24mm, 1/40s, f3.2 ISO 6400 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia ,Topaz, and DXO
