Rachofsky Residence (35)

A master work by Richard Meier.

"Glimpsed through the entry gate, the public facade is mostly opaque gridded Corbusian composition, floating above piloti, and set behind a razor-smooth lawn and an auto court stained to a charcoal hue. The owner, an art collector, welcomes the characterization of the home as "an efficiency apartment above a museum." Hidden from view is the home's primary facade, an open wall of glass and steel overlooking a reflecting pool. Meier's signature elements are clear: the exposed interior, transparency of structure, ceremonial stair leading to an outdoor landing, and unceasing white-on-white crispness."
