Craughwell AC Winter Marathon 2013
This is a photograph from the Craughwell AC Marathon and Half Marathon which took place in the village of Craughwell, Co. Galway, Ireland on Saturday 14th December 2013 at 09:300. Craughwell AC organised this initially as a marathon event but then also allowed any Athletics Ireland affiliated club runners to take part in a half-marathon time trail race event on the same course. There was also an option of one loop of the course for new members of Craughwell AC as an opportunity for them to take part in their first race event. Overall this was a very well organised event. The course was very accurately marked and stewarded. Everyone who helped at Craughwell AC who made the event possible should be extended the highest of praise. The weather conspired against the event but this doesn't take away from the professional way that the club went about the whole day. This event follows on from the very successful summer version of this event which took place in August 2013 (link to photographs below) and as one would expect experienced very different weather conditions.
This photograph is part of a larger set of photographs which we captured on the day. These can be accessed using the link www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157638663897546/. These photographs are mostly from the first two loops of both races today.
Race Day Information<
Weather: The weather turned out to be a worst-case scenario. There was heavy gusting southerly winds and heavy rain for the entire during of the race. A weather front had moved in from the Atlantic over the night and positioned itself over the West of Ireland. This made conditions very tough for competitors in all of the events as it was very difficult to stay warm and not too wet in the conditions.
Course Description:
The course comprised of repeats of a 5KM looped course which started and finished outside of the Community Center in Craughwell Village. The loop was a right-handed clockwise loop. The only deviation from this was the addition of a turn-around point at just after half-way on the loop to accomodate for the need to make up an additional 2KM for the marathon distance (and 1KM for the half marathon). The route turned right back onto the main-street of Craughwell village and up the well known hill in the street. There was a water station provided at the start and finish area. And additional water station was available just after the turn-around point on the course. The course was opened to traffic but overall the volume of trafffic was low.
Refreshments: There was a wonderful spread of refreshments in the Community hall afterwards. Refreshments were provided from members of the Craughwell AC club who baked cakes, buns, etc. The coffee and tea was a very welcome sight for everyone who ran the course today.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
