March to Parliament and Candle-lit Vigil to Save the NHS - London 07.09.2011
Congregating on Westminster Bridge in the shadow of London's famous St. Thomas' teaching hospital, several hundred health workers and political activists protesting against the reviled Health and Social Care Bill (which was having its third reading in the House of Commons), set off towards Parliament through the busy rush-hour traffic towards Old College Yard where they joined a larger rally of trade unionists and Parliamentarian supporters. The crowd listened to several speeches by politicians, medical health professionals and trade unionists who unanimously called for people to keep on resisting the changes being implemented by the ConDem government which they firmly believe will be responsible for the planned death of the National Health Service by the Conservative Party, only to be replaced with the profiteering American health system model which sees greed and profit being put before humane care, and which has left 50 million Americans without access to healthcare.
As the night drew in and the speeches ended, a small-but-symbolic bonfire was made of placards carrying Prime Minister David Cameron's face.
