In remembrance: Thomas Arne, composer
The composer Thomas Arne (1710-78) was born, baptised, lived and died in Covent Garden, London. He wrote music for some 90 theatre productions, but he’s best known for two rousing compositions – A-Hunting We Shall Go and Rule, Britannia.
Arne is buried in the graveyard of St Paul's church (“The Actors’ Church”) in Covent Garden. This is his commemorative plaque on one of the walls. He lived in King Street, just a few paces from the church, and you can see his very unusual English Heritage Blue Plaque here.
