Light and shade in Bushy Park
Fallow deer in Bushy Park, Teddington, west London. This species has been here since Tudor times, when the Park was part of Henry VIII’s hunting grounds. The deer were a favourite sporting target, and an equally favourite part of the royal feasting table.
Today there are around 320 freely roaming red and fallow deer in the Park. Incidentally, a juvenile's antlers grow at the rate of 2½ centimetres a day.
