Communism meets Capitalism

Vietnam’s red flag meets the steel and glass of capitalism… the flag flies in front of one of Nha Trang’s many tourist hotels. Vietnam’s deeply troubled history seems firmly in the past as the country looks ahead to an expanding mixed economy and increased tourist trade.

From the ravages of colonialism and prolonged war, the country is now known for its fine beaches, Buddhist pagodas, extraordinary natural beauty, lovely people and bustling cities. But for all of that, it remains a one-party communist state with tight media control and a poor human rights record.
