Street of umbrellas
A jaunty canopy of suspended umbrellas and parasols add to the festive delight of Câmera de Lobos, a busy little fishing village five kilometres to the west of Funchal, the Madeiran capital. This is said to be where the Portuguese explorer João Gonçalves Zarco, the man who discovered Madeira, first landed in 1419 – though possibly not with umbrellas.
