Great Blue Heron ~ (Ardea herodias)

 

There is not much that a Great Blue Heron won't eat. I've seen them eat things that crawl, slither, swim and fly. I have seen them eat the scaly, the furry, the feathered - and now the shelled. I figured they ate turtles that were small enough, but I had not yet seen it. Interestingly enough, the bird was unable to access the "meat", so it swallowed the little guy alive, and whole.
