Carbon Footprint
We were on the moors above Bedlinog to photograph a train leaving the coal washing and loading plant at Cwmbargoed. I took this panorama after the train had gone. On the Horizon are the Brecon Beacons, behind the land reclamation scheme at Ffos-y-Fran. There is a large solar farm in front of the coal loading point.
Over the last twenty years there has been much opposition to the mining on environmental and health grounds as well as global warming issues. This is a moral dilemma. The coal is needed for steel production, smelting ore requires carbon. The question to answer is do we do our own dirty work, or do we get other nations to do it for us?
