Rome Sweet Rome
One of the things I love about the eternal city are the unexpected gifts of beauty it bequeaths when you least expect it. I have been lucky enough to visit this magical place many, many times, and am therefore freed from the obligation to follow the well trodden pilgrimage to Trevi, the Colosseum, St. Peters and the Forum; not necessarily in that order. While I still enjoy the more traditional landmarks, I am also free to wander the narrow streets, poke my almost roman nose into dimly lit churches, and wander into quiet courtyards. This is often rewarded with a surprising revelation of architectural and artistic beauty, in a city which has such an overabundance of art. This is one of those beautiful 'everyday' sights.
