LBLR in the 1960s (34 of 53)

Arnolds' No.43 (MR 10409) hauling a loaded train across Stanbridge Road level crossing. Just off shot to the right was the Leighton Buzzard Concrete Company's works which was served by a set of points facing trains bound for Billington Road. Arnolds' delivered sand here from Double Arches.

Normal practice was for wagons bound for the concrete company to be on the rear of the train so that the loco could run round at either Leedon or Stanbridge Road loop and push them into the siding. Empties were collected on the return trip from Billington Road by uncoupling the loco on the mainline, collecting empties from the siding and adding them to the front of the train before continuing to Double Arches. 8/1/1962
