Pete Arnold1
LBLR in the 1960s (21 of 53)
Arnolds' No.42 (MR 7710) with a loaded train from Double Arches to Billington Road rounding the curve which brings the line through 90 degrees from Co-op Loop to the Vandyke Road level crossing. Although on this occasion the driver's mate is on the loco, he would often get off before the curve, nip through a gap in the hedge and run along the road to the level crossing. The reason for this practice was that drivers liked the chance of keeping the train on the move round the curve and up the short, but sharp, rise to the level crossing. 9/1/1962
