AFRICAHAUS
A little bit of architechture for a change.... and a previously unseen image - although this may first appear to look like some kind of AI art creation it isn't, and is an actual photograph of the stairway leading to the roof dome, this building was shown to me by my good friend Andreas Mundt who was showing me around Hamburg, there's no way I would have found half of the places without his help!
This the roof of the Afrikahaus building in Central Hamburg, an absolutely stunning piece of architechture with 2 giant Elephants on the outside when you walk in.
The Afrikahaus was commissioned by Adolph Woermann and Eduard Woermann in 1899 to serve as an office for the C. Woermann trading company, the operator of the Woermann-Linie and the Deutsche Ost-Afrika Linie. For construction to take place, Haus Große Reichenstraße 31, an old Hamburg Mansion, was demolished.
The architect Martin Haller designed the facade to emphasize the exotic nature of its primary tenant. To further reflect this, the building's colors were those of the Woermann line.
One thing about shooting in the City of Hamburg is you can very easily end up with a sore neck are you are constantly looking upwards! The exposure balance on this one I recall being quite a tricky feat.
