The most bizarre thing I have unearthed so far as I'm cleaning out 20+ years of paperwork from my filing cabinet is the retainer I used to wear on my bottom teeth after I got my braces off.
Instead of a removeable one, they left the bands around my eye teeth (aka vampire teeth) on the bottom and attached a metal wire between them. This was supposed to keep my bottom teeth aligned. I finally had it taken out years and years later when I was at the dentist and I got annoyed for the umpteenth time at them having to thread behind it to floss my teeth. They actually tried to convince me to keep it on, can you believe it?
