Ishoro Honda's 1962 film King Kong vs Godzilla is the first to tell the story of an encounter between these two monsters.
Godzilla has been frozen in an iceberg but is awoken through nuclear heat. At the same time an evil Japanese busines man transports King Kong to Japan from the Pacific island where he has been considered a monkey god.
The two monsters meet twice, King Kong eventually saving Japan by drowning Godzilla before escaping to sea, swimming towards his beloved island.
The film's special effects have a certain period charm, as have the various communications devices used in this film.
