The Trees

Three mighty oaks line up to drink on the shores of Lake Windermere, (Lake District National Park, UK). We’d just arrived at our holiday cottage the night before so I hadn’t seen our surroundings in daylight. I woke early, (for me), the next morning and went for a walk down to the lake where the mist was still clinging to the water. I ended up wading out into it with my camera and tripod to capture this magical scene.

I took this shot a few years ago now but keep returning to it. I've had several attempts at processing this and a similar set of brackets. It’s amazing to look back at them, (flickr link here www.flickr.com/photos/perkster/8602957193/in/photostream ), to see how much my pp skills have evolved over the intervening years. People have since commented that it reminds them of a scene from The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings.

7 exposure, tripod mounted, hdr +3 to -3 with a couple of additional brackets created in acr -4 and -5 to rescue the detail in the sky. PP using photomatix, and photoshop with Topaz denoise and clarity plugins. Nikon D700 and Nikon 24-70 f2.8 @24mm, f9, ISO 100 average exposure 1/30 sec
