Dynamo Commutator

Second Generation Generator

This 19th Century dynamo has sat in the Student Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since before I started going to the Flea Market – at least 25 years. The latest Patent date is 1882, and the dynamo was one of several installed in Boston in 1886. This is a primitive generator from the early years of electric light. The brushes and commutator mark it as a dynamo, a direct current generator. This is the device seen in the old photo in Analog Digital Digital.
