Prickly Pear Cactus

Fruit on a prickly pear cactus. This cactus plant blooms with large yellow flowers on the edges of its leaves. The flowers then close up and develope these red pear shaped fruit. The fruit can be eaten, and they have a sour taste, something like a combination of pineapple and grapefruit. This cactus grows in the southwest USA and in northern Mexico. This picture is a HDR composite made of three exposures from a Canon 5D mark 3.
