Pisaster

One of the things I recall from my marine biology degree is that, while they are the same species, there are more purple varieties of this sea star in some areas, and more orange ones in others (PDF). The mix at Cannon Beach remains mostly purple, as at home in the Strait of Georgia in Canada.
