It's hard to decide whether there's any theme linking all the bosses together, though most have, in one way or another, to do with green-ness and the flourishing of flowers. A few, like this one, show what seem to be monsters or worms attacking the flowers. So my guess is that it's all meant to make you think that "in the midst of life we are in death."
