Llandaff Cathedral
The Cathedral Church of St Peter and St Paul with St Dyfrig, St Teilo and St Euddogwy is one of the oldest cathedrals in Britain. Although the earliest parts date from about 1120, there has been a church on this site from about 546 AD, when it is thought that Teilo came from West Wales and established a llan, or Christian community, here on the banks of the River Taff. Dyfrig and Euddogwy are the earliest bishops to have authority in this area, but it wasn't until 1022 that a bishop actually lived at Llandaff. Bishop Urban began the building of the present cathedral in 1107, and the apostles Peter and Paul were added to the dedication. The Cathedral houses the 'cathedra' or seat of the Bishop of Llandaff, and is the mother church of the Diocese of Llandaff within the Anglican Province of the Church in Wales.
