Our next door neighbor at Fort Richardson, Alaska was a painter and jade carver. As I remember she showed me this bit of rock, without any further work done on it, shortly after obtaining it.
We both saw the green jade frog embedded in the red brown rock. She was debating whether to extract the jade for other carving or leave it largely as it was.
It showed up as a gift as Corky and I were getting ready to leave the Army and Fort Rich. Marcia did enough work on it to highlight the frog but left it mostly intact. It has lived on or near my desk for almost five decades.
