California Dogface
This medium-sized butterfly normally lands with its wings closed. I was told how difficult it was to get one with its wings open so today, I thought I'd give it a try. It took me about 2 - 3 hours to finally get this shot and I had to crop it so the details could be seen.
It is a very beautiful butterfly with wings that have the face of a dog and irridescent colors... like the wing on the left. I also included two below so that you could see what the Dogface looks like with their wings folded.
It was interesting observing the Dogfaces, Monarchs, Sulphurs, and Mourning Cloaks. I didn't know the Monarchs would bully other butterflies so that they could get the nectar from the flowers... a wonderful learning experience for me.
