Strangers #20 - Lorraine & Mary
This is Lorraine on the left and Mary on the right and they are from Perris. I almost don't know what to say about my encounter with them except that it was heart-warming.
Lorraine has a beautiful smile and her personality is just as colorful as her smile. She just lost her husband to lung cancer four months ago and this wonderful lady to her right is her "mom in-law" -- another warm and bubbly person.
Lorraine's mom in-law is struggling with memory loss. Not too long ago, they went on vacation. Mary got up at 2:00 am to water the flowers outside but she was a little confused about where she was. She fell and hurt her knee pretty bad but you would never know her struggles by her conversation.
They seemed inseparable and the interaction between the two was like watching two birds fly in synch. Lorraine said, "I love my family and family is important to me." And Mary nodded and smiled.
Then she said, "I love to love others and I love my mom in-law." And Mary chuckled and agreed.
Then Lorraine added, "And I love taking care of her too." And Mary broke out in a big smile and hugged Lorraine.
We listen to the news and other media and so often hear of tragic relationships but not so with these two. How lovely it is to see beauty in the human spirit and I saw beauty in these two in spite of their difficulties.
This picture is #20 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at www.flickr.com/groups/100strangers/
