Septic System Saga

This is not some avant garde blue collar sculpture. It is my attempt to prevent our dog, Lily, from totally excavating our septic tank. For a few days she has had a fixation on digging up the soil over it and as does this pauses to bark at it. The clean out covers are only about 2 inches ( 5 cm) below the surface. Her name is Lily and we got her via a local rescue group in April. She does like to dig and before this partially excavated a rhododendron plant. I have been putting the soil back in but she is a very efficient digger. This started with a couple pieces of plywood and as it has expanded to this as she continued to dig and to push the wood out of her way. Right now we are at a stalemate as I ponder my next move to a more permanent and attractive solution. For any who are unfamiliar with this, all of our waste water is piped into this underground septic tank where bacteria do their magic. Solids fall to the bottom and the liquid flows out into a system of porous pipes buried under our lawn. The solids are pumped out every few years and that was most recently done last year leaving some areas with no grass or ground cover and made an attractive place to dig I suppose. I think Lily was barking at the sound of running water in the tank below.
