Complexos

Social inequalities are evident in Rio, previously invisible, slums grow and share space with luxury buildings. Now they live side by side, and share, even in different levels, the worries about security, living cost and many other urban issues. A black man face sculpted on the wall looks to the Copacabana apartments on the other side of the street. Rio de Janeiro, August 2014.

The project named “Complexes” is a try to show the social inequality in Rio, where you can see the change from a world famous postcard to a poor community in few minutes of walking. Rio is one of the most known cities in the world, but this status is not benefiting the favela residents, the violence and drugs traffic is still there, even being masked by government actions. This project is a try to put in evidence some of this contrasts, establishing a closer contact with people, without official intermediates, searching for the truth of everyday life, and is something that I`ll certainly keep updating for the next years.
