St Barbara

A beautiful French medieval window showing St Barbara holding a tower which she had directed to be built, or alternatively in which she had lived. Her legend may be found here. She was a very popular medieval saint, being one of the 'Fourteen Holy Helpers'.

This glass is from St Omer in France but it was buried during the French Revolution and made its way to England in the 1820s, and is now at Shiplake church, near Henley-on-Thames.
