Andrew Pears, a Cornishman, came to London in 1789.

He established a hairdressing business in Gerrard Street, Soho.

Cosmetics and rouge were made in his shop and eventually he developed the transparent soap that carries his name today.

In 1862 the business moved to Isleworth and in 1914 the company was acquired by Lever Bros. now part of Unilever.
