The Medical Society of Virginia purchased the lot and house in 1926, renovated it, and opened it to the public in 1927. In 1968, the society gave the property to the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (now Preservation Virginia). The APVA renovated the house in the 1970s.
