Lighthouse Point Pelee Island

Lighthouse Point is at the northeast tip of Pelee Island. Built in 1834, the stone lighthouse has been extensively renovated and, although abandoned as a functioning navigation aid, still stands strong.

After Fish Point, this location is the main birding hot spot on Pelee Island. Migrants gather here, particularly when there is a breeze from the south. The area right around the lighthouse is especially good. If the wind is from the west or southwest, songbirds will also shelter and feed along the beach at the base of the towering cottonwood trees.

Ideally you would be out a ways from shore in a boat to photograph the scene. My one clever composition idea was to wait for a wave to curl perpendicular to the subject, ostensibly leading one's eye to the light.
