Wild Four O'clock
Mirabilis multiflora
August 2009
Great perennial native to the North American plains. Slow to emerge from the ground (mine doesn't appear until June), this plant grows about 18" tall a with a 3-4 foot spread. The deep tap root makes it very drought tolerant, but difficult to transplant. Trumpet-shaped magenta flowers open every day and close in the evening, from August to frost.
