Reading on the train, somewhere in Gujurat
I can't tell the language he's reading, but it's most likely Gujurati. It's nearly impossible to keep track of languages in India considering it is the most linguistically diverse nation in the world. The sounds of the language are indistiguishable to foreign ears: it took me a week to learn how to say "hello, how are you" in Hindi.
Newstands have papers and magazines in at least 5 or 6 different languages that vary geographically. The officials are Hindi and English, but Bengali, Tamil, Maharastri, Gujurati, Urdu, Malayalam, and countless other languages and tribal dialects are the mother tongues for millions. My favorite language by the look of the text: Malayalam (Kerela). By the sound: Tibetan (Ladakh).
