Old Man River a été conçu comme la pochette d’un album CD. Un album qui raconte, en musique, les sentiments d’un vieil homme face à la vie, à la solitude, aux souvenirs qui tournent en boucle dans sa tête. Parce qu’on ne l’invite plus à dire ce qu’il pense, le vieil homme en est venu à préférer la compagnie de sa rivière à celle de ses semblables... même lorsque la rivière (comme ici) sort de son lit au printemps. Si ce CD existait vraiment, la première pièce musicale qu’on y entendrait serait Tears For Esbjörn, l’une des pièces de piano les plus poignantes écrites par Iiro Rantala :

Old Man River has been designed as a CD album cover. An album that tells, in music, the feelings of an old man in front of the life, of the solitude, of the memories that run in a loop in his head. Because nobody invites him to say what he thinks, the old man came to prefer the company of its river than his fellows ... even when the river (as here) get out its bed in the spring. If this CD really existed, the first piece of music which we would hear would be Tears For Esbjörn, one of the most poignant pieces of music written by Iiro Rantala
