Screaming Trees 1990 Rock Band

I have started a project of scanning many old film negatives and started with some rock band images. Oh this is slow work. I have got very little scanned yet. I do a image then photoshop all the dust. This photo was over four hours of spoting gunk out. But the images will look better then when I first did them. I Don’t know if I will print any.

About this image here. I was asked in the spring or summer of 1990 by a buddy of mine if I could do some promo photos for some band that had asked him to do some. He had plans to do something and could not do them. So I got to do the photos. I had not made any band photos be for. I had big ideas of what I hoped to do but the band asked me to just do some head shots. Thats all they would do. I had about an hour to do them. I did three rolls of B&W film.with my Mamiya c330. I used some shop lights pointing right at them for the shots. I was new to lighting in doors. I could have made better shots if I had used softer lighting. At that time I mostly shot out side and seldom of people. I really wish I could have got them out side to do some cooler stuff. I was very green at the time being in my twenties. It was a fun time as I recall. Two other guys from the art department was hanging out helping me move the lights and setting up the black back drop.

The Screaming Trees In 1992 album Sweet Oblivion. with a song ”Nearly Lost You” was playing on MTV. I was surprised to see them making the big time. So this is my odd moment missed in the lime light. I gave them I think five 8x10s to look at and never herd from them after that. I assumed they did not like the photos. But in doing my scanning this week I looked up the band and there was one of the shots I did on a web page about them. It looks photo copied many times over. But this is fun to see that one of the five shots still lives. I really should have sold some of their photos when they got on MTV. But it did not even cross my mind how to do that. I do have several images of them on film if any one is looking for some of them now.

You can see the old photo here. See how much better this new one is:
