July - Hexagon and Mondrian Block!
I made this block for the July month of the Hip To Bee Square quilting bee! Sweet Posie asked us to make 12.5 inch blocks for her three year old niece, whose favorite colors are pinks and purples.
We were asked to make hexagon or Mondrian style blocks, so I made a combination of the two. First I fussy-cut the hexagons to include a girl in each hexie. Then I hand-sewed the hexagons together to create a pink-colored square. I used the following Mondrian painting as my inspiration for the composition of the block: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mondrian_Composition_II_in_Red... .
I have enough leftover scraps to make another block (this time only using hexagons), which I hope to complete soon. I can't wait to see the completed quilt!
