Alaska State Troopers police insignia
From the Alaska State Troopers - some AST insignia.
Click on the photo for a better look at this.
Here is a pic of some shoulder insignia plus other items.
The above insignia is pictured on my Alaska State Trooper insignia web site. The link to that site is below.
Various shoulder patches are pictured. These are the large 5-point star patches. The major difference is the color and/or background of the words State Troopers on the bottom.
The first shoulder patch had gold “State Troopers” lettering on a light background (Top Left), the second had dark blue letters (Center Left), and the current issue has gold letters on dark blue background, with improved detail in the background pictures, especially the moose/flying birds. All three of these were worn on all duty uniforms except for SERT camouflage uniforms.
The dark large shoulder patch is for the Special Emergency Reaction Team. This SERT patch is a uniform take-off as are two of the 3 colored shoulder patches. Note that the letter R of SERT as used by the AST, stands for the word Reaction. It is often mistakenly called Response.
This SERT patch is several years old, but is genuine, unlike many of the SERT and other AST patches you see on the Internet.
There are other colored versions of this SERT shoulder patch, plus badge style SERT patches - STILL NEED all of those.
The badge patch is used on vest carriers. It can be seen in various Internet photos. Still Need other versions of the badge patch.
There are 2 large chevrons in gold, blue and red trim - the single stripe is used by those holding the trooper rank and the one with 3 stripes is used by sergeants. Note that these 2 patches are worn only on the blue dress uniform/tunic. Sergeants wear a different shoulder patch for shirts and jackets- pictured here at the Lower Right - and while this item has a fourth stripe along the bottom, it is the same rank of AST sergeant as the large 3 stripe patch.
There is a similar 2-stripe chevron for corporal rank, worn only on dress uniforms at the training academy. STILL NEED this one and need the corporal chevrons used on the shirts. Most promoted troopers jump from trooper rank to sergeant, bypassing the corporal rank.
The 4 horizontal gold colored bars are used by new troopers who have less than 5 years AST service. One stripe is used for each year of AST service up to 4 years. Obviously, the 4 year patch is pictured.
When a trooper gets five years of service, the patch with the 5 point star is used. At that point, the trooper no longer uses the horizontal bars. For every 5 years of service, the trooper wears a star patch. There is pictured both the patch with the single star and a similarly sized patch that has 2 stars on it. These are worn on the lower left sleeve of the shirt. The dress uniform/tunic uses other 5 point stars.
The small blue and gold patch with 2 pistols and a target near Center Right notes an expert score with the pistol. The pistol patch is for shooting at least a score of 230 out of a possible 240 on a supervised qualification course, but if you shoot a perfect score of 240, there is no other special insignia. This patch is worn on the lower right sleeve.
The yellow banner patch in the Bottom Row has the AST motto, Loyalty, Integrity and Courage. It is worn on the right sleeve of the dress uniform. Because the blue cuffs on the dress uniform can be more than one design, the exact placement of this yellow banner varies according to what style of cuff is on the sleeve. If the sleeve has pointed cuffs, the yellow banner is placed just above the point of the cuff. If the sleeve has the newer square cuff, then the banner is placed on the shoulder.
I STILL NEED most of the insignia pictured above.
I am just starting out my collection of AST insignia. But thanks to the collectors who loaned me items to photograph.
I have more AST insignia pictured on my web site devoted to this stuff --

Still looking for various AST items including any badges (breast, hat and wallet), a campaign hat, other SERT patches and other items - noted on my web site.
