This picture was taken on March 22, 2025 at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. On that date, the museum celebrated the 145th anniversary of the arrival of the first train to Tucson and the 20th anniversary of the museum.
On March 20, 1880, a Southern Pacific train arrived to the town of 7,000 people. A silver spike was presented to the railroad president in appreciation for building the line to Tucson. The spike was made from 12 ounces of silver bullion. This spike was on display at the 2025 event.
During the 2025 celebration, a 1,000 square foot mural was dedicated. It was painted in 3 panels on the outside of the museum. The artist was Bill Singleton.
This is a pic of the memorial bench for the Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was killed in the line of duty at this train station.
Several other photos from the 2025 event are in my Flickr album, Silver Spike 2025, and a link to that is somewhere on this page.
