FBI ROMANIA and MOLDOVA COIN

This is a challenge coin from the FBI in Romania and Moldova.

This coin is from the Legal Attache, commonly referred to as the LEGAT (pronounced, LEE gat). The term is a State Department term and has nothing to do with being a lawyer nor is it a law-type position. It denotes the position held by an FBI agent while serving officially in a non-US-country diplomatic post, serving in a liaison capacity.

In some countries, there is one Legat who covers just that one country. In most Legat offices including this one, the Legat serves in more than one country.

There are several dozen LEGAT positions world-wide, and these FBI agents report to the International Operations Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC.

One side of the coin depicts Vlad Tepes, better known as Vlad the Impaler, who gave rise to the name and character of Count Dracula. The numbers on the coin refer to the years of his birth and death.
