GARDA Police Ireland Hat badge and Coin

Click on the pic for a larger view.

Here are some items from Garda, the National Police Service in Ireland.

On the Left is the hat badge used. On the Right is a challenge coin.

The coin is pictured next to the badge to show relative size of each. The coin measures 2.5 inches wide - very large for a coin.

Note that challenge coins are often not round. But they are still called coins.

The other side of this coin is in a second picture here on Flickr. The 2 sides of the coin were not combined into one collage photo because the quality of that picture doesn't do justice to the coin design. So you will have to search for what the other side of the coin looks like.

This side of the coin has the symbols of the four provinces of Ireland, Ulster at the top, Leinster using the harp, Munster at the bottom and Connacht at the left. And that is St. Michael, the patron saint of law enforcement officers, in the center. Quite a few law enforcement challenge coins have St. Michael on one side of the coin.

You can also click on my album of Ireland things on this page, to see the picture of the other side of this coin as well as other items.

I collect insignia from Garda so if you have anything available, pls contact me. I have various things to trade including US patches, lapel pins, coins etc. Thx.
