Posted here in time for 2017 – the 50th anniversary of the agency name, Alaska State Troopers.
While we know the agency using the name, Alaska State Troopers, it used to be known as the Alaska State Police (ASP). It was known as the ASP from Statehood in 1959 until 1967.
This older style hat badge uses the same size and basic design as the current AST hat badge. But note that the center State seal is not in color – a major difference with the current style hat badge.
These are rarely seen nowadays. I am aware that one or more is on display at the Alaska State Trooper Museum in Anchorage, but other than that, you will likely never see this badge.
The back of this has the name of the manufacturer along with the words, Gold Filled, indicating there is a small amount of gold in the badge. The term, gold filled, typically means that there must be a percentage, such as 5 %, of gold in order to use this term. This is much more gold than the term, gold plate, which means a very thin coating of gold was applied.
Thanks to the guy who helped me get this photo so I could put it on my web site. STILL NEED this ASP hat badge plus the current style AST hat badge.
I have other AST insignia items pictured on my web site devoted to AST insignia –
alaskatrooperinsignia.tripod.com/
STILL NEED lots of different AST insignia for my AST collection. Feel free to contact me if you have any available – thanks.
