For those who don't know the story.

 

The government had decided to remove the free school meals for poor children over the summer holidays. (There are two sides to the rightness of this)

 

Marcus Rashford argued for humanity in the case of these children. His arguments were calm, measured and in using his own childhood's experience, persuasive.

 

He captured the popular mood and virtually everyone, apart from the government, could see the basic goodness in his case.

 

Soon the groundswell became unstoppable and the government performed a shuddering U turn - poor children will be fed this summer.

 

Rashford turned out to be more than simply a northern footballer.
