Edwards survived the Munich Air Disaster, 6th of February 1958, only to die of his injuries 16 days later on the 21st.
Among the many layers of the disaster, one was that none the players had yet fulfilled their potential. Their stories were not completed.
This was true of Edwards more than anyone. In the opinion of many (most?) he was destined to be the greatest footballer in the world. It wasn't to be.
He was just 21 years old when he died.
