Ce quartier est célèbre de par son architecture composée de maisons étroites et hautes, agrémentées de balcons en fer forgé et de bow-windows. Certaines sont décorées de carreaux de céramique en faïence ou en grés et portent des noms amusants. Le nom du quartier provient des « Cordiers cordants », des pêcheurs trop modestes pour se payer un filet et qui pratiquaient donc la pêche grâce à de longues cordes garnies d'hameçons.
La construction des Cordiers a débuté au XVIIIème siècle. Lors de la deuxième guerre mondiale, le mur de l'Atlantique débutait ici, ce qui provoqua la destruction d’une partie du quartier, rasée pour la construction de l’ouvrage.

This district is famous for its architecture made up of narrow and tall houses, decorated with wrought iron balconies and bow windows. Some are decorated with earthenware or stoneware ceramic tiles and have funny names. The name of the district comes from the “Cordiers cordants”, fishermen too modest to afford a net and who therefore practiced fishing using long ropes garnished with hooks.
The construction of Les Cordiers began in the 18th century. During the Second World War, the Atlantic Wall began here, which caused the destruction of part of the district, razed for the construction of the work.
