Former Kroger, Hazard, KY
This is the former Kroger supermarket located at 102 Town & Country Lane within the Town & Country Plaza in Hazard, KY. It originally opened in 1981 alongside SupeRx Drug and TG&Y (now Kmart) when the plaza was built. It was one of Hazard's stronger grocery stores until 1998, when Food City opened a mile north of the store. Competition between the two was intense, but as Food City had more departments (like a pharmacy and a gas station), this Kroger was quickly labeled as outdated, as it had the 1980's decor up until it closed in 2002, two years before Hazard even got a Wal-Mart Supercenter. Now, a third of the building is being used for Kentucky Government offices, while the other part of the building is still being renovated for a future business to come in.
