Unite against administrations attempt to scuttle gender justice on campus .

.

The JNU administration has decided to appoint a Professor-who is facing a GSCASH enquu y rntu an~auuu:; ur :;~xuaJ narCJssment-as the Dean of .

School of International Studies (SIS). The move of JNU administration must be condemned. This step must be seen in light of recent events where the .

JNU administration has tried to shield faculty members found guilty by the GSCASH and the dilution of GSCASHrecommendations by the EC. This step by the administration sets up a very wrong precedence and is not in the interest of the campus community. Designating a person to an official post with an ongoing enquiry is reflective of scant regards for the institution like GSCASH and exposes administration's insensitivity to the cause of gender .

justice. Such a step also sends a message that the administration does not takes charges of sexual harassment seriously. Moreover, giving a person an involved in the case. Hence the objection to appointment of this faculty as the Dean is not only about standards of probity that an individual having anadministrative post with an ongoing enquiry puts the enquiry process in jeopardy. Free and fair enquiry is possible only if it is not influenced by the parties .

institutional responsibility must live up to, but also from lhe apprehension of possible influence over the enquiry and its implementation process. The .

administration must adopt a policy of not designating anyone to any administrative post if the person is under enquiry inGSCASH. .

Despite of the objections raised by the students and some faculties, the administration has gone ahead with this decision. It has found support from the .

right-wing student outfits of the campus. In an all organization meeting yesterday, while all organizations and JNUSU welcomed the initiative of holding a referendum, the representatives of right-wing organizations maintained that referendum is an attempt to malign the faculty. The referendum is not to hold the person guilty of sexual harassment or to set him free; that is only up to the GSCASH enquiry. All we are demanding is that the university asks the Professor to step down from the Deanship in order to facilitate a free and fair enquiry and to conform to standards of probity .

:!xpected in a campus like JNU. Once the enquiry is over, the EC must sit. and take appropriate action according to the recommendations of the GSCASH .

Nithout any dilution. .

fhe administration, EC and the political establishment are continuously trying to undermine the GSCASH. The student community needs to unite and .

raundl an uncompromising battle to safeguard the institutions that we have built by struggles and movements. We appeal to all to participate in the .

referendum to be held on 27~ and 28111 of February and force the administration to reverse the decision of appointing the accused as the Dean tiD the .

enquiry is ongoing. .

sexual harassment against him in GSCASH. Should anyone be promoted to any administrative post when there is a pending enquiry in GSCASH.

.

Participate in the referendum by answering the question: The newly appointed Dean of School of International Studies has an ongoing enquiry of Dipti, Vice President, DSF.

against that person? .
